Autism has been known since the 1940s, but there has yet to be a cure. There are many different studies being conducted on that very subject, but so far, nothing concrete has been found. There are many who wonder why so many children are being diagnosed, and they wonder if it is something that might be avoided. There are varying theories, and though there are many who feel strongly about them, nothing is proven fact just yet. Until a cure can be found, parents have to do the best they can with what they are given. There is a line of thinking that when a child is not getting enough glyconutrients, autism is something that might occur.

Basically speaking, glyconutrients are what keeps the body running. You may commonly hear them referred to as sugars. These are great for energy, and they also help keep the immune system running in top shape. If there were to be a deficiency, the autoimmune system would start to shut down, and many of its functions would not longer work and the body would be left unprotected. Autism is often called an autoimmune problem, so it might stand to reason that a lack of glyconutrients might lead to autism.

Some studies have concluded that almost three quarters of the diseases and other types of medical conditions that are found in the world today are a result of the toxins that enter our bodies each day. These are commonly referred to as free radicals. The body must work very hard each day to get rid of these, as they come in many forms that are sometimes unavoidable. There are preservatives in foods that can be toxins, as well as many things that we breath in each day. These come at us all day every day. When the immune system can’t handle them all, they start to build up in the body.

When the glyconutrients are lacking, some believe it should be given as a supplement to children who are picky eaters and may not be getting what they need from meals. They attribute the lack of them to the weak immune system, and then in turn to developing autism. The theory would be that the body would work better, and autism symptoms would improve. No one can say that this would stop autism from forming, but many believe it helps after the fact. Each set of parents who has tried this will give you a different story, and they claim in works in varying degrees, or not at all.

Though there are no proven studies to suggest that any of this is true, there are many parents who want to try it. Supplementing might help, but they should be prepared for it not to do anything to help their child. When it comes to giving extra glyconutrients, autism may or many not respond, but this is something that should always be watched over by a doctor. Parents who want to try this need the support and supervision of their doctor, and should never try it on their own. A good doctor needs to be able to evaluate the situation. There may be unknown side effects. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your child’s health.
